9gag Fucking Sucks Now

I made a few posts a while back mentioning the site 9gag. Here, here, and here.

We used to have a joke there. Scrolling through that site was so fun and addictive we'd say we "lost our souls to 9gag". If we introduced it to a friend and s/he ended up becoming addicted, well, another soul just got lost.

Well, fuck that. I have my soul back, such as it was.

9gag fucking sucks now.

Pages upon pages of crappy MS Paint cut-copy-paste images telling stale jokes. And it gets worse. The Comments section, integrated into Facebook, is ALSO filled with stale jokes. Every single post.


Used to be, 9gag had funny material. Original material. No longer.


Used to be, I didn't really understand why 'mainstream' could possibly be a bad thing. Now I know.

Fact: Most people are stupid.
  1st corollary: Anywhere there are more people, there will naturally be more stupid people.

And you should all know that stupid people are bad for things. For media things? Doubly so.

All those legions of newfags newcomers who "heard about this great site called 9gag" inundated the place. As visitors, this wouldn't be a problem, per se. But then they started to contribute. Again, still containable. People who know quality when they see it will down-vote shit like that.

But then... then the newfags started voting on things. Up-voting shit. Their own shit. Newfags posted shitty images and other newfags guffawed and up-voted them. And on and on.

Like a half-wit being the loudest to laugh at his own joke.

    The circle of internet life. This happens with every site. Even Google. As a site grows in popularity, so does the amount of idiocy thus making the good content harder to find.

    Well it seems the cancer that is killing "ebaums" is spreading. Has anyone started outcries of "9gag was never good?" yet? Even though this was inevitable, it's still a shame. They have a numbers advantage. You can either wade through the shit to find the gold, or just accept it's a lost cause and move on.

    Some one should just make a site thats members only and if you do to much crap you get your membership revoked.

    Thats why I've always loved being a weirdo/outsider people like that rarely care about what I like!
