Friendly Tip of the Day

Backup your blog guys. Under Settings> Other> Export blog.

Yesterday I started poking around the settings again and I noticed the option, which in turn caused me to realize I haven't made any sort of copy of the stuff I've written up to this point.

Just in case some thing happens.

I haven't been running this blog for even a year yet, but I know I would be pained if I lost all the material I've written so far.

It only took 15 seconds to download the XML file. Why not back up your blog?

Oh oh, don't forget the template, too. Unless you just use the default settings. I had to do a bit of tweaking with mine before the margins and sidebar widths ended up just right so I backed that up, too.

  1. Thanks for this! I'm kinda new at blogging, so this was helpful - I hadn't considered backups!

    2. It's a good post but I already had all of that info.

Also, your blog is very laggy for me. I don't know why.

    3. It was really just the bit about safety measures that I though might of been of use.

A few people have been having problems the last few days. I think it's something to so with blogger localizing URLs.
Or maybe I have messed around with my template too much...

    4. No, I actually think it's that background image you use. There are no problems until that thing loads.

    5. Ah ok, thanks for that - it's my picture but not hosted on blogger. Gonna change that and see if it helps :)

  4. I back up my template every time I play with it, but I hadn't considered backing up the blog itself. I now have. It's a bit bigger than I thought too coming in at 16.7 megabytes. Then again there is a bit under 300 posts.

    1. That's <300 posts that you have a copy of now, eh?

In other news, I'm considering officially copyrighting my blog with the U.S. Copyright office. $35 fee but it's definitely more weighty in a legal sense than the myfreecopyright.com thing.

  5. I don't have much patience with this kind of stuff, maybe I'll just ask my friend about to do it for me :)

I did like Mark back up my template though :)

    1. Make it a regular thing, unless you save copies of every post you make.
